Welcome to Shaun Luttin's public notebook. It contains rough, practical notes. The guiding idea is that, despite what marketing tells us, there are no experts at anything. Sharing our half-baked ideas helps everyone. We're all just muddling thru. Find out more about our work at bigfont.ca.

Import a StartSSL Authentication Certificate into Firefox

Tags: certificates, ssl

If we receive a “Secure Connection Failed” message when we try to enter the SmartSSL control panel, then we do not have the Authentication Certificate in the browser. So, we need to import one. If we already have one backed up somewhere, we can import it as follows:

  1. Firefox > Options/Tools
  2. Advanced > Certificates > View Certificates
  3. Your certificates > Import > Choose the .p12 file
  4. Enter its password.
  5. Now you can “Authenticate”

We keep a backup of our .p12 files in a USB stick.
